This is a service whereby potentially millions of receivers can be messaged simultaneously. With mobile phone messaging this tends to happen serially so there may be a long time delay between the first and final person contacted. With paging any number of receivers can be alerted in say 30 seconds. This makes paging an ideal service for informing small, targeted groups like search and rescue crews to broadcasting alerts to local residents affected by a natural disaster.
